Pastelón/Puerto Rican Plantain Casserole

Sofrito Lovers,

For Puerto Rican Heritage month, I've been sharing my favorite Boricua dishes, and it would be remiss of me to omit one of the tastiest dishes in my culture, Pastelón.

Often referred to as "Puerto Rican Lasagna," this delectable dish is far from some noodle-based tomato mess-I hate it when people call it that.  It's a fried sweet plantain casserole topped with melted cheese, spiced ground beef, and whatever else you want to add to it.

I don't deny that it is lasagnaesque, but I see it as so much more.  It's far more substantial and hardier than lasagna-and tastes better as well.  Good pastelón takes time and practice to perfect, I'm still working on it myself!  Have a look at the recipe below, from Tasty, and start your pastelón making journey today!  I'm telling you, you'll love it.

Go taste for yourself!  ¡Buen Provecho!
