44 Black-owned NYC Restaurants to try!

Sofrito Lovers,
Jamaican Flavors, FieldTrip, Sweet Science, and Sisters Caribbean Cuisine. These 4 restaurants, and more, are featured in a wonderful article written by Shaye Weaver and Amber Sutherland-Namako for Timeout.com titled, "44 Black-owned NYC Restaurants to Try."
It may seem timely that I share this article with you during Black History Month, but the intent of this post isn't for you to support Black businesses once a year. It's to expose you to the rich contributions of people of African descent to New York City's culinary culture, and to inspire you to try these eateries year-round.
Supporting Black businesses is a 365-day act of support and solidarity, especially when Black food culture is still ignored and undervalued in New York City. It's time people opened their minds, wallets, and expanded their palettes beyond the foams, pastas, and aiolis of the month. And, before you start talking about how much you love Soul Food, ask yourself when was the last time you frequented a West Indian/Caribbean or African eatery? When was the last time you enjoyed some incredible fare from an AfroLatinx-owned restaurant?
I don't mean to harp, rant, or bombard you. I can't help but passionate about this topic. I grew up in Harlem and since childhood I have loved the tastes, smells, and aromas of African Diasporic food. To top it off, being Puerto Rican, a lot of my cultural fare is heavily inspired and influenced by African culture. I can't help but support and influence others to savor African Diasporic food-I know you'll love it, too! Read the article and go yourself some wonderful meals!
Go taste for yourself! ¡Buen Provecho!
